Betsy Walton

Jeff told me to stop posting so many illustrators, but I just can’t help myself! I always wanted to be an illustrator, and I can draw pretty well, but I like other’s people artwork way more than my own. Take for example, Betsy Walton, who lives in Portland, Oregon and likes to draw, paint, sew, and make prints. Her style is kinda’ abstract, but I like her line art, I think it’s pretty cute.

Anneka Tran / Kiwitown

I get really excited when I see illustrators sticking to traditional medias, like watercolor and acrylics. Sometimes I get sort of sick all the computer drawn bullshit. Anneka Tran from Liverpool is one such person who does amazing things with her art, creating all sorts of beautifully colored weirdness. But you know, the good kind of weird.

The Boy Fitz Hammond

The Boy Fitz Hammond

I haven’t thought of this guy in a while, but he seems to still be kicking around… The Boy Fitz Hammond is an English illustrator who draws funny pictures of celebrities (most of the time with little balls hanging in their trousers) and a silly four line poem describing them. They are neither classy, nor particularly well done, but incredibly hysterical.

Avant Guardian 10

Submissions for Surface Magazine’s Avant Guardian photography contest is starting now. The contest is open to all emerging photographers who haven’t had a fashion shoot in a magazine with a print run over 100,000 copies. So that’s a whole lot of people! My favorite finalist from last year was Jaime Chard, with they’re slick looking advertisements. Be sure to check out his site for all sorts of beautiful product shots as well.

200%

200%

There are books, and there are magazines, and there are things like 200%. Started three years ago by Thierry Somers out of Amsterdam, 200% is a “bookazine”, a book in the form of a magazine featuring creative, passionate people in the fields of fashion, art, music, and film. In the current issue features an interview with typography w√ľnderkinds Jonathan Hoefler & Tobias Frere-Jones, who also give a masterclass about their typeface designs and the thought processes behind them.

Also be sure to check out their website as well, which gives you a bunch of “extras” and behind-the-scene stuff that complements the content in the magazine.

Pantone Colored Mobile Phones by SoftBank

Pantone Colored Mobile Phones by SoftBank

But seriously, why the HELL does America continue to carry the shittiest phones in the world, and Japan continues to bust out AMAZING phones like SoftBank’s Pantone Flavored Phones?! It’s a total joke. I want at least 4 of the colors that are available, for whatever mood I’m in. And I need to move to Japan already… maybe I can find a cute little adoptive family?
