Really, really beautiful videos by Volkan Ergen of Istanbul. I love the way he saturates and adds so much contrasts to these. The sound is also pretty stellar as well, so be sure to watch these with headphones in. To see more of his video work on Vimeo, click here.
I’ve spent the last half hour listening to this Department of Eagles performance from KCRW. They sound amazing live, er, on the interentz, but yeah, I wish I had tickets to see them tomorrow night. The silly little player above isn’t the handiest of ways to listen to this, but if you need to kill some time with some great music, this is a sure bet.
Also, they play two new songs which is fun alone, and they also talk about how Grizzly Bear is a fancy bitch, and Department of Eagles is a less classy ho. I might be paraphrasing that a bit, you’ll have to listen to find out.
Good Thursday everyone! Sorry for the delay in the wallpaper, yesterday was hectic. But today is a wet and rainy day, perfect for the wallpaper that’s being released today! The wallpaper was made by the wonderful Gemma Correll, who draws just about the cutest little critters out there. The wallpaper was inspired by Gemma’s hatred for winter which tried to channel into something positive. In her own words, “I don’t really love winter, in fact I hate it – but I was kind of working on the concept of reverse psychology!”
I totally agree. I hope you all enjoy the wallpaper, and be sure to check out Gemma’s site if you’re not familiar with her work. Thanks again, Gemma!
I thought this music video for Friendly Fires would be a sweet way to start the week. The video is for the song Skeleton Boy, and features a ton those little pellets you find in a beanbag chair, a trillion so the description says, and a ton of leaf blowers. The effect is quite simple, but it looks pretty rad overall, proving again that creativity totally beats money every time. The song is pretty fun as well, so no matter what you’re doing today, you can have a fun little dance party!
I spotted this Freegums sweatshirt on their site a couple of weeks ago and thought it was hysterical/genius. The annuals on the shirt remind me of my childhood spent at horribly cheesy craft fairs, but for some reason throwing the Freegums logo in makes it awesome. It’s a unisex sweatshirt, and goes for $65, which isn’t bad at all.
They also have a compilation of their work available as well, in conjunction with the show. It’s 240 pages and looks totally epic. The show actually opened tonight, but it officially starts tomorrow, January 15th. The exhibit will run until April 12th, so if you’re in the Paris area be sure to stop by. If you’d like to see some images and read more about the exhibit, click here.
Wednesday morning already?! This week has flown by for me, but I get to post a sweet wallpaper, so that’s good right? This week’s featured artist is the Finnish artist Pietari Posti, one of my absolute favorites. He’s currently working in Spain, doing a lot of illustrations for magazines like The NY Times, National Geographic and Playboy. He was also recently in the Now Showing project where people recreated awesome movie posters, which I posted about here.
His wallpaper is simple and beautiful feature a pattern of foxes (a side note: a group of foxes is called a ‘skulk’) all looking rather cute. I love the color palette for this, those blues are damn beautiful, so be sure to DL the iPhone version as well, it looks great. I’d also like to point out that there is only ONE black fox, which is true for blogs as well, haha… I hope everyone enjoys this weeks desktop!
I can’t say I’ve ever been excited to see how many miles a person walked or how many songs they might have listened to, but when it’s presented like Nicholas Felton’s Annual Reports are, well that’s an entirely different matter.
The 2008 report covers all the little nuances of Nicholas’ life, from what kind of beers he drank, all the different kinds of transportation he took, maps with relevant things that happened. It’s all put together though in absolutely beautiful way, just looking through it I get jealous! I love the color scheme of this report, the different colors of gray with the pea green looks really sharp.
You can also check out his older reports from 2007, 2006, & 2005. I’ve also taken the liberty of posting the rest of the report under the cut, because someone like Kottke or Boing Boing will pick this up, effectively crashing the Feltron servers and then you can’t see anything. So enjoy!
