Started roughly 5 years ago, Jónsi Birgisson, lead singer of Sigur Rós, and his boyfriend, Alex Sommers, created Riceboy Sleeps, a name that they took when the two collaborate together. The name actually came from Alex’s diet of rice, and one night when Jónsi was writing a song as Alex slept, the name Riceboy Sleeps popped into his head. Since then Alex has been creating the art for most of Sigur Rós’ albums, and they’ve continued working together musically on and off.
You might remember they had a song on the Dark Was The Night compilation, which at the time I didn’t even realize was them. The video above gives a taste of the songs on the album, as well as some insight into how the songs were created. I’ve listened to the album several times now and it’s pretty haunting and mellow, but definitely good music to listen to late at night while working. The album comes out July 20th, and I highly recommend it.
