Although I know that some people wake up on Monday with a tremendous sense of well-being and like to punctuate their early morning euphoria with upbeat music, I am somewhat of a slow starter. By the time I force myself out from under the blankets and make a cup of coffee, I am in need of soothing music that gently wakes me up, as anything that stimulates my brain too much is likely to result in the Monday morning grumbles.
Leading on from this, I am extremely thankful to Canadian duo memoryhouse, who have created a lovely mix entitled 1986 summer fire and which features tracks from Sylvain Chauveau, Brian Eno and Boards of Canada. It is delicate and lilting, as well as beautifully minimalist and sparse, and is the perfect musical accompaniment if you’re after something soft and dreamy to start your week.
