These astronauts are a part of a series created by Dave Murray for the group show The Palpable Obscura. The images are colorful, even humorous thanks to a bit of mischief on the part of the astronauts (that’s Sputnik being misused as an amp in the lowest image.) I think it can be hard to make images of space suits look animated because facial expressions usually aren’t visible; but Mr. Murray has used color, postures, and a few props to imbue his subjects with active moods. Looking at the images with the solid backgrounds, I kept studying the faint boxes near the astronaut’s shoulders… only to realize that these are probably reflections of artwork across the gallery.
