When you look at the bio of director/photographer Yoann Lemoine, aka Woodkid, the context for the music video above becomes perfectly clear: “I was born in 1983, and grew up in a captivating environment full of World War II stories, travels to Eastern Europe, where my family’s roots are, music and 90’s advertising, where both my parents worked.” I couldn’t think of a better way to sum up this video for his first single Iron. It features a ragtag group of warriors, rushing into a CGI battle that feels like something out of a World War II documentary.
The cinematography is extremely detailed and the wardrobing is spot and and inventive. I think Yoann has done a beautiful job and the song itself is pretty great as well, kind of reminds me of UNKLE or Massive Attack in a way. It’s crazy too that he was able to get Agyness Deyn to take part in the video, and the fact that he just directed Katy PErry’s video for Teenage Dream. Clearly, Yoann has quite a bright future ahead of himself.
