Music Video for 'Ice Cream' by Battles

Leave it to Battles to make one of the trippiest music videos I’ve seen in a while. The song is called Ice Cream and it’s the first single off their upcoming album Glass Drop, which comes out next Monday in the U.K. and Tuesday here in the U.S. At some point last year Toyondai Braxton, former singer and guitar player, left the group. So this next album should be more instrumental overall, but with guest vocalists like Matias Aguayo, who sings on this track, as well as Gary Numan and Kazu Makino from Blonde Redhead. Should be awesome.

As for the video, it’s really all over the place, but that’s a good thing. It’s edited super quickly and really tightly, featuring imagery of karate masters and wet cats and girls in bath tubs. It was directed by Luis Cerveró of CANADA who did some really neat stuff with overlays as well as some rad color shifting. Most importantly, it fits this song perfectly, adding to the frantic, fast paced beat that drives most of Battles music. Well done all around.
