Anthony Ausgang has recently unleashed a new book of fiction entitled The Sleep of Puss Titter or… A Lysenkoist Life In The Random-Word Generator. This is Ausgang’s first official literary release, although he’s most famous for his psychedelic portraits of cats. In the foreward of this 145-page masterpiece, John Tottenham is quoted as saying “I haven’t read this book from beginning to end, nor do I intend to, neither would I advise anybody else to do so. Despite its brevity, if taken in one sitting it might imperil one’s sanity.” The treat of the Puss Titter is “Source Spam Exemplum,” where Ausgang used a variation on William S. Bouroughs‘ cut-up technique, by taking passages from various spam emails he had collected and randomly arranged the words to form beautiful sentences.
Ausgang is a very cool giant, who’s all-time-best was when he showed up to a gallery opening in a Mariachi suit. He’s always been a great writer, as showcased with pieces like Paint Kills, which was featured in LA Weekly. And, it’s finally time he released a book!
