I’m a huge foodie, and when I get to see food mixed in with art I go absolutely gaga-bananas. I also secretly love the vintage commercials that air on TV Land, so when I saw Nouar’s retro-style food incorporated paintings I instantly fell in love with them. Like most great L.A. painters, Nouar had her first show at the La Luz De Jesus gallery nestled inside the wonderful oddity shop Soap Plant/Wacko in Los Feliz. Since 2005 she has risen through the gallery ranks to slowly conquer the LA art scene. At first glance I was seduced by the giant gummy bears in her work, and then upon a closer inspection was even more transfixed by all the hidden meanings of each piece.
To prepare for her upcoming gallery exhibit, Nouar created a blog where she has already posted some really rad vintage images JELL-O salads. Her show Internally Yours opens on June 11th from 7pm – 10pm at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, and will feature some brand-smacking-new 3D works cast out of resin.
