Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture's Nest Tower

This is an interesting idea from Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture: a tower of nests. As the density of people increases in a city, the bugs and birds are displaced as their habitat disappears. This project from KKA proposes a tower wrapped in natural materials suitable for birds and bugs to build shelter. According to the project description:

“Birds and insects are nature’s premier architects, using a disarranged form to build functional homes in which to live, reproduce and care for their young ones. Recycling sticks, branches, grass and mud to construct their shelters, they are undoubtedly the first creators of Green Architecture.”

I like the development of a building project as an ecosystem because animals will try to live in it anyway. The problem is controlling what animals move in next door: birds and lady bugs are cute, but when wasps, rats and snakes move in, I’d have a hard time feeling comfortable; it’s a good excuse to have a dog or cat.
