A Peek Inside The Los Angeles Zine World: An Interview With Geoffrey Golden And Amanda Meadows Of The Devastator 1

The zine world in Los Angeles is exploding right now. There are now festivals and fairs and meetups and even stores devoted to selling these local literary and visual nuggets. There’s this energy now of people wanting to get their work out into the world beyond the Internet through these tactile, handmade items–and they’re turning to zines.

One zine that stood out for us is comedy zine The Devastator, a quarterly mini-magazine created by Geoffrey Golden and Amanda Meadows that is embedded in comic book, entertainment, and popular culture. The couple have put so much care into the product from the way it looks to the way it feels and to what work they share, which makes their product one of the best zines coming out of the city. They also are very conscious of ensuring the magazine is very well designed and illustrated as they have featured great artists like Tony Millionaire, R. Sikoryak, Becky & Frank of Tiny Kitten Teeth, Marc Palm, Angus Oblong and Hassan Rahim, who is actually Amanda’s brother.

The work they are doing is super fantastic–not to mention very funny. They’re putting quite a great deal of care into their work, hoping to bring back the art of the comedy magazine. You can check out our interview with them here.
