I was quite excited for The Walkmen’s most recent album Heaven, their newest since the 2010 release of Lisbon. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as their sound tends to shift between each record. What they ended up with is an extremely deep, charming record that sounds like a variation of lullabies you could rock out to.
I decided to share the first song off the record, called We Can’t Be Beat. It’s starts out simply enough, just a guitar being plucked and Hamilton Leithauser’s vocals. At about the 2:40 mark though the song bursts open, Leithauser’s voice ushering in a burst of guitars and drums. In my opinion this song is a perfect way to start an album out. It sets an amazing tone to a stellar album which I’ve been listening to pretty much non-stop for the last week. If you dig this song I’d guess you’d like the rest of the album as well.
