This is a half office half hotel commissioned by Shinyoung Co. and desgined by JDS Architects. Located in an area of Seoul undergoing redevelopment, the so-called Officetel Building is ten stories tall with some 700 livable office units. That’s a lot. As JDS tends to do, the design is presented through a series of explanatory diagrams that layout the strategy of the building at both an urban scale and the the scale of an individual tennet. Aside fromt that, the diagrams are a fun way to animate the design process; some of the moments (like the one above showing folks enjoying the zig-zag balconies) are compelling on their own.
