Beck is back with a couple of new tracks, and this one, Blue Randy, definitely caught my ear. It was recorded at Third Man Records rather spontaneously, so says his website, while he was visiting Nashville. I like this track quite a bit, it reminds me a lot of his Mutations period, plus I’m a sucker for a slide guitar. What makes the song interesting though is while the structure is decidedly country sounding, his lyrics are extremely contemporary. If you had Merle Haggard or Willie Nelson making country songs about our modern lives, this is what it might sound like.
