Great paintings by Bloeme van Bon

These paintings are by the Dutch artist Bloeme van Bon. Her combination of strong colors and the childlike simplicity of how she paints leads to work which is really appealing and has a very playful element to it too.

Personally I find that her work has quite an endearing sense of humor. Her figures look cumbersome. At times it feels as though Bloeme takes a certain pleasure in purposely placing them in awkward situations. Take the large man sitting at the table for example – it feels as though he can barely reach the pudding placed in front of him. Her marathon runners too, for some reason they must make their way through the tightest of tunnels. Even the women waiting to get water by the river look as though they may fall over before they get to it. They’re all wonderful images and looking through her portfolio you’re bound to find plenty more that you’ll love!
