First look at 'Elysium', the new film from Neil Blomkamp

I was just complaining that I hadn’t heard anything about a new film from Neil Blomkamp, the director of District 9 as well as a number of amazing shorts and commercials. Turns out he has a new film coming out called Elysium, and it sounds pretty awesome.

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy “Coordinators,” people who can afford bio-genetical engineering, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government of?cial, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky ex-con Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Pretty cool, right? The film stars Matt Damon as Max (who you see above), as well as Jodie Foster, Diego Luna, and Sharlto Copley, who you’ll remember as the lead from District 9. Unfortunately the film doesn’t come out until March 1, 2013. I don’t think I can wait that long!
