Continuing the theme of light (see: bending light illustrations and bending light illusion) we have, today, an installation in New York’s Madison Square Park. Buckyball is the brainchild of artist Leo Villareal and an homage to structural pioneer Buckminster Fuller. Here, a familiar-looking geodesic sphere is built with LEDs embedded in the hexagons and pentagons that make up the sphere within a sphere. The result is a pulsating sculpture that is nearly thirty feet tall and completely mesmerizing. Don’t believe me? Watch the video below, or go see it in person. Buckyball is on view until February the first.
