Exploring yet another facet of “handmade” culture, I found these intriguing pieces by Pittsburgh based artist Katie Mackowick. Her cut paper collages are like a National Geographic acid trip, random images swirling and mixing together, creating bizarre, printed worlds.
There’s such an art to the way each of these images are laid out, pulling together context that didn’t exist previously. My favorite piece of hers is the one at the top of the post, resembling some sort of horrifying sci-fi villain you’d regret running in to. The juxtaposition of the man with his incredibly dark skin paired with the crystal “face place” is a stunning combination.
I’d suggest visiting Katie’s Flickr page for an easy to digest way of seeing her work.
