For a while now I’ve been enjoying the work of Mike Yamada. For nearly ten years he worked as a Visual Development Artist at Dreamworks Animation and recently he’s started working at Disney. His sketchbook blog (or ‘sketchblog’, as he dubs it) is an excellent insight into his illustrations and his sketches and I love getting a glimpse into the work he makes.

His Zoom Zoo Alphabet Flash Cards are an independent project he released a few years ago and they’re really fantastic. Each one features a different racing animal and they’re perfect for kids (or anyone learning English as a second language). I just love Mike’s character design and his use of color and I think that these are really fun.

Zoom Zoo Alphabet Flash Cards are available for purchase through the Extracurricular Activities Design Studio website; a project which Mike runs with his equally-talented wife Victoria Ying. Mike’s work is well worth following on one of his many blogs either at Blogger or Tumblr, or visit the Extracurricular Activities blog to see more from both Mike and Vicky.
