Do Not Open – A lettering project by Erik Marinovich

Do Not Open - A lettering project by Erik Marinovich

When I visited San Francisco last summer Kyle and I were able a good chunk of the day with Erik Marinovich, one of the best dudes/letterers I know. While we were chilling at his studio he was telling me about this project called Do Not Open where he mails hand-painted envelopes to folks around the world.

Do Not Open brings something that was specifically available to friends and family to the general public. You can submit an address (yours or a friends) and for a fee, a uniquely hand-lettered envelope will be carefully packaged and mailed to you. Envelope dimensions are 15″x20″and no two addresses will look the same. All envelopes are one of a kind that include a hand painted address on #7 kraft bubble mailers (14 1/4″ x 19″) from Office Depot. The series will be limited to only 250 envelopes. Note International orders welcomed!

Erik told me that he should have some more updates to the site early next week, so be sure to keep scoping out his awesome work. Also, mail is clearly becoming the cool new medium. You may have seen Roxy Torres’ hand-lettered envelopes which we posted about last week, which gives this trend even more of a leg to stand on. Anyone else going to utilize this medium for their own project?
