I got an email from the extremely talented David Huyck last week letting me know that he started a new project called The Cloudy Collection featuring beautiful letterpress prints. There are 7 prints total, with contributions by Meg Hunt, Bill Fick, John Martz, Amy Crehore, Tom Kaczynski, Steven Weissman, and David Huyck. David also went out of his way to make sure that these are environmentally sound, as the prints are made on 4 x 6″ ivory-colored bamboo paper using 100% vegetable-based inks, and printed with all wind-power by Boxcar Press.
The series of 7 are only $35, plus there’s free shipping to the U.S. and Canada. A portion of the sales are also going to the Nature Conservancy. Basically this is the most awesome little print project I’ve seen in a while. He should have another set in a few months, and I’m sure I’ll post about them then.
Really awesome poster by French illustrator and designer Fabien Barrell, Designers Are Meant To Be Loved, Not Understood, on sale in two versions, a smaller one of $36 and a larger for $49. Quite beautiful and lovely.
Get it here.
Merijn Hos, whom you might remember from his wallpaper, is starting to blow up in a big way. Some of you may have seen his collaboration with LeSportsac, or maybe you saw his work animated on YoGabbaGabba! (how awesome is that Clientele song, btw?). But I’m really in love with these China ink drawings he did. They look like old Victorian era drawings, but with a playful, childlike twist.
You can pick up a colored version of a print like this over at Wilkintie for $80.
A couple of weeks ago I visited Poketo headquarters for a little art show featuring a bunch of great artists, but one in particular that I was really glad to meet was Mel Kadel. I talked to her and her hubby Travis Millard for a good chunk of the night, and they’re very excellent people. So it was rad to see that Poketo released a wallet with Mel’s artwork on it, which I’m kind of in love with.
Look at all of those amazing patterns! The detail put into all of those patterns are so rad, and when I look at all the different positions of the feet below the blankets I kinda laugh. You can buy Mel’s wallet here for $20.
Update: Poketo just posted a great little interview with Mel, which you can read here.
If you are or were at South by Southwest this last week you might have noticed a few people handing out some cards with some mustaches glued to them… well those were homies from Causecast. We’re doing a Mustache March at 4:30 on the Southeast corner of 6th and and Brazo, so bring your mustache (real or fake) and your cause and let people know what you care about.
The postcards were initally drawn by my buddy Garrett Vander Leun and then I colored over them to give them their creepy, surreal look. Did anyone see these around town?
