Carlos Serrao

Los Angeles based photographer Carlos Serrao is consistently one of the most creative and beautiful photographers out there, shooting everyone from Jack Nicholson to Olympic athletes and everwhere in between. His style is extremely moody, and the colors are always slightly desaturated, giving his photos a really cinematic feel. But I came across the two landscapes he did above and they spoke to me more than anything.

These sort of speak more to my mood right now, very calm and still and beautiful on a Sunday morning. If you’ve never seen Carlos’ work before, check out his site, you’ll be in heaven.

Exclusive Photos of Space 15 Twenty

This morning I woke up at 7am with a drive to get shit done, and shit was definitely done. Not really planning on it, I decided to pop over to Space 15 Twenty, a”retail experiment” created by the folks over at Urban Outfitters which allows them “to collaborate with creative brands we find inspiring and interesting.” I parked in front of the Space, walked up, and started taking photos, no one said anything to me, so I was able to get some pretty cool shots. Basically what they’ve done is taken a big warehouse off of Sunset Blvd. and turned into a hipster strip mall, and I don’t mean that in a negative way whatsoever.

The Space so far features Urban Outfitters, Alife, What Comes Around Goes Around, Hennessey + Ingalls, We The Free, Snack Bar, Samantha Pleet, and Hope Gallery. The space is absolutely amazing, lots of natural woods, exposed bricks, and little nooks and crannies to explore. Space 15 Twenty opens today/tonight officially, so if you’re in the LA area you should definitely pop over and check it out, though I’m sure it’s gonna be a hot mess.

There are a ton of photos under the cut as well, so be sure to check those out!
P.S. How rad is that giant Andy Rementer billboard?!

Scenes from Antarctica on The Big Picture

I’m totally loving this new set from The Big Picture, featuring lots of great photos from Antarctica. It seem like such a surreal place that just happens to be filled with the cutest land birds ever. The photo above was taken at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and in the foreground you can see sastrugi, which are ridges of snow formed by wind erosion. It’s almost like the film noir version of The Empire Strikes Back!

Thobias Fäldt

Continuing on a photographic jaunt, I bring you the work of Thobias Fäldt, a Swedish photographer who’s been making the rounds around the interwebs lately. Thobias has this really great style of using the bright flash ever, which illuminates and washes out everything he shoots, making everything kind of hyper-realistic. He’s got a ton of work on his site, so pop over and check it out.

Nicolai Howalt

Danish photographer Nicolai Howalt has a really great photo series on his site called Boxer which he took in 2003. It features young boys before and after they’re boxing matches, and as you can see above, some of the afters are quite drastic. Altogether there are 44 photos, and the before and afters are pretty all over the place, some of the kids looking red and puffy, while others just look like they’re was ruffled a little.

It’s kind of like those games where you’re trying to spot the differences, except you’re looking for bruises and swollen eyes.
