Michel Gondry’s Dream for Motorola

Michel Gondry has teamed up with Motorola for their latest RAZR2 (can’t they think up any new 4 letter abbreviations?!) commercial called, Gondry’s Dream. The commercial is pretty cute overall, though I feel like he rehashed a bunch of ideas from old projects and mashed them all into this one. You’ve got fake cities, a forest that grows out of said fake city, a drummer, and then the overall surreal, dream environment.

I really feel like homeboy needs to start branching out more, because I really love his work, but I don’t want him to be a one trick pony. He looks like he’s sort of accomplishing this with his next movie, Be Kind Rewind, but it’s still got the DIY, home video thing going again.

Also noteworthy is the site itself. They did okay with it, but overall it’s a mess of Flash, sounds and music. Sadly, my biggest beef is with the video itself. I clicked to watch it, and I notice that there’s a blog option, which I thought was pretty cool and progressive. Motorola seemed to have gotten the memo that blogs will spread the word for you. So I copied the code and pasted it into Scribefire, and then changed the height and width to fit my blog better. But I noticed something was off, so I decided to publish this entry without writing anything, just to see what would show up.

It turns out that the code was absolute shit. The video is Flash based, it’s size cannot be changed, and it auto-plays right away. There were no sound controls or even player controls for that matter! It’s really too bad that they didn’t get it right, because this would have been a post about how Motorola understands how bloggers work.
But sadly Motorola, you really dropped the ball on this one.

Kaze To Desktop

The video above is probably the coolest screen saver in the world and it’s called Kaze To Desktop.
What does it do? It reacts to the wind conditions of your city. So what? Well, it blows around EVERYTHING that’s on your screen! Toolbars, windows, icons, the whole nine yards. This is so freaking cool.

But why don’t they make a version for Mac?! Especially for something like this? This is catered toward the artsy fartsy types, who are mostly Mac users… wouldn’t you want to build this for us first?! Until then fellow Mac users, watch the video above and continue being bitter about the situation.

The New iPods ’07

I’ve been extremely busy for the last few days, getting back into the swing of life without Jeff, so posting has been, well, crappy lately. Anyway, yesterday Steve Jobs announced the arrival of new iPods, with new styles, new functions, new colors, the works!

Let’s start with the big, and talk about the iPhone first, because it was probably the largest announcement of the entire keynote speech. So, now you can get an 8GB iPhone, for $200 less than it previously was. Which is absolutely amazing, and I’m glad I waited (aka didn’t have $600 lying around). You can also access the soon to be accessible iTunes Wi-Fi Music store, which will allow you to download music over the internet, which I guess some people wanted. I’m not that into it, personally.

Next down the line is the newly unveiled iPod touch, which is exactly like the iPhone, except you know, without the phone part. You get the touch screen, Coverflow, and the most exciting part, they put a browser in, which in many ways, makes this the mini-computer everyone dreams that we’ll all use one day. Now they just need to find a way to import their AMAZING new iWorks program, and then you’d really have something. It also features Wi-Fi like the iPhone as well.

But unfortunately, it has one HUUUUUUGGGGGEEEE problem. They only come with storage capacities of 8GB and 16GB. Now, I’m sure it’s not easy to fit all that crazy shit in there, but I personally have around 45GB of music. I know I don’t listen to all of my music, all of the time, but it’s nice to have all of it on my iPod, in case of a rainy day.

Mimobots Designed by Undoboy

Mimobots, the ultra-cute, bear-shaped, flash-drives have teamed up with Spear Collective to design 2 new versions of the mega popular storage devices. They held a little competition amongst the Spear Collective Gang, and in the end, Undoboy was the grand champion, with his King and Queen versions.
I have to say they’re pretty damn rad looking, probably the best I’ve seen of these so far. You can pick them up now at the Mimobot online store by clicking here.
Also be sure to check out Undoboy’s awesome portfolio site as well!

My Private Sky Plates by Kram/Weisshaar

My Private Sky is an incredible project by the guys over at Kram/Weisshaar. For a select few people they are creating a custom set plates with his or her personal night sky map from the time and place of their birth. The plates can contain over 500 stars, nebulae, planets and constellations, all of which are hand-painted in gold and platinum.
The personal night sky map is generated through a computer program which produces a blueprint, and is then given to the artists at Porzellan Manufaktur where they hand paint every detail.

It’s really too bad that these plates are going to be nearly impossible to get a hold of. This is such an excellent idea that should be open to anyone who would like a set. What about a black enamel version that has some sort of computer paint the star map over the plates? I want star map plates!!!

Check under the cut for a few more images of this amazing dinnerware.
