Despicable Dogs by Small Black

I wanted to give you some tunes to listen to this morning so how about this new music video from Small Black for their song Despicable Dogs. The music and video are both really great and both have a really wonderful vibe to them. The music kind of reminds me of The Radio Dept., kind of has that chill, 80′s vibe to it that’s been going around. The video makes me think of The Wrestler, except it stars a surfer dude who is the lead singers uncle Matt.

The video was directed by Yoonha Park who I think did a great job. Lots of quiet beautiful moments, giving you a peak into the life of a guy who looks like he’s had an awesome life. Yoonha’s also done a ton of other great videos as well, so be sure to check out his site as well.

You can buy the 7″ from Transparent records but they’re giving away the MP3′s for free as well, so that’s pretty rad. Click here to grab those.

‘Typographic Conundrums’ by Harry Pearce

I seem to have a very hot and cold relationship with the designs that Pentagram creates. I understand that it’s a large team of designers, but as often as they have a hit they, in my eyes, have some big misses. This new book by Harry Pearce called Typographic Conundrums? An absolute hit.

Mr. Pearce gave himself three rules to work and create with: one box, two colors and a single typeface. With seemingly so little he’s created an absolute trove of beautiful works, mostly based on clever visual puns. In his own words:

“I grew up in an age and a home where the words of Spike Milligan, Edward Lear, Peter Cook and Monty Python, among many others, filled the air. Nonsense that made sense; irreverence that became pure pleasure. Words became images, images words, and where was the line between the two? It didn’t matter as long as they gave you a smile of recognition.”

The book comes out on December 10th and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

UNI Watch Concept by Qixen-P

The folks over at Qixen-P have come up with an idea for a watch that let’s you be in control of how you see the time. The concept is called UNI and features a 96 x 96 pixel, full color OLED screen that is totally programmable and customizable. My guess is that your watch would come bundled with a program that would allow you to create a custom layout for your watch, making the design totally personal. From the screenshot above it also looks like you can share your watch design with you’d be able to share your design, though the web address above isn’t real.

The watch is still a concept but it’s a strong concept. I’d love to be able to customize my watch any time I wanted to. I guess it would all depend on how much customization you would get which would turn it’s fun factor.

Matte Black Nesting Dolls by MUJI

The other day Mr. Erdenberger pointed out that the new X-Mas collection by MUJI was out. Curious, I took a pop over and came across these awesome looking nesting dolls. These matte black nesting dolls are pretty rad looking and seem to have a kind of chalkboard coating that let’s you draw on them. The tallest one is about 5 inches tall and the set goes for $13… which is cool if, you know, you’re in Japan.

If you happen to be iN japan, you can grab a set by clicking here.

Kitsune Noir Mixcast / No.017

Kitsune Noir Mixcast / No.017

Hey hey it’s Friday and I’ve got a new Mixcast for ya’. This weeks has a theme which is centered around female vocalists. I heard Nico singing the Velvet Underground song I’ll Be Your Mirror in an optics shop a couple weeks ago and that was the start of it. Basically these are just some of my favorites songs by lady singers.

For the artwork I went for something that might appeal more to women, something kind of Anthropologie feeling. I really like that it’s so different from last week’s art which was very dark and forebodding, while this is fun and energetic.

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
In The Round by The Cardigans
Emotional Champ by New Buffalo
Little Eyes by Yo La Tengo
Old Times by Whispertown 2000
I’ll Be Your Mirror by The Velvet Underground
Little Trouble Girl by Sonic Youth
Strange Things Will Happen by The Radio Dept.
Unattainable by Little Joy
Calendar Girl by Stars
Gliss by Asobi Seksu
Jenny, You’re Barely Alive by Rilo Kiley
Lover’s Spit by Broken Social Scene
