Name: Nick Cocozza
Degree/College: Illustration/ BAhons/ Duncan Of Jordanstone College Of Art And Design, Dundee.

About Your Wallpaper:
I was initially inspired by the 1980s film “BMX Bandits”. This combined with my interest in British gang culture led me to develop a darker narrative set on the streets of a Scottish working class neighbourhood.

The choice in colour reflects the division between the positive and negative aspects of growing up in a British council estate.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project featuring Owen Gatley

Owen Gatley

Name: Owen Gatley
Degree/College: Illustration BA (hons) University of the West of England.
Website: www.owengatley.blogspot.com

About Your Wallpaper:
My wallpaper pays homage to the Great Arnold Schwarzenegger, the only man on the universe whose powers of versatility know no bounds. From Mr Universe to Governor of California, no feat is too great for Arnie. He’s my inspiration.

I would definitely have to agree with Owen on this one, Ahnold is pretty awesome… except when it comes to politics, as California is kinda going to crap right now. Nonetheless, his movies are amazing and his versatility has always been astounding. Oh yeah, and Owen’s drawings are perfect and totally spot on. This should definitely make your friends and co-workers giggle.

UPDATE: I made a little mistake, Owen’s last name is Gatley, not Gateley. Sorry about that.

The Differences Between Calgary and California by Geoff McFetridge

Last year Stop Smiling magazine asked Geoff McFetridge to illustrate the differences between Calgary, his hometown, and California, his current place of residence. I totally missed out on this when it was printed, but Stop Smiling put up some additional images that weren’t run in the magazine. I don’t know much about Canada, but I do know a lot about LA, so I love hearing Geoff’s thoughts on our shared hometown. The illustrations are great as usual, the guys art is just such a treat to look at.

I’ve posted more of my favorites under the cut, especially the last one, which I though was rather cute.

The Blab! Show

BLAB!’s annual art show in support of the upcoming annual coffee-table book is coming up soon. The Blab! Show will be held at the Copro-Nason Gallery in Santa Monica on September 8th. They’ll be having an opening night party from 8-11PM, and it should be a good time.
The artists involved this time around, just to name a few, are Tim Biskup, Shag, Gary Baseman, Travis Lampe, Sergio Ruzzier, Gary Taxali, and a whole lot more. I’ll definitely be there, and I’ll probably take a bunch of pictures, so keep an eye out!
