Jopo Bicycle

Earlier today I came across these great little bikes called Jopo, a brand that I’d never heard of. I haven’t been able to find out a lot about these bikes, but that’s where I’m hoping you wonderful readers can come in and help. So far I’ve figured out that thye were manufactured in Finland starting in the mid-60′s. I guess they’re pretty well known over in the Scandanavian areas?

I also know that they look realllllly cool. I love how the frame of the bike is shaped, with that big curve in the middle. That little rack above the back wheel is also pretty great, you could easily transport groceries and things around town. Also, just for clarification, the top photo is the old school one (I think) and the bottom photo is the new version. I definitely prefer the old version much more, especially the angular chain guard thing-y.

Anyone know where I could get one of these in Los Angeles for a good price?
I posted a couple more photos under the cut that I thought were neat, check ‘em out.

The Desktop Walpaper Project featuring Pietari Posti

Wednesday morning already?! This week has flown by for me, but I get to post a sweet wallpaper, so that’s good right? This week’s featured artist is the Finnish artist Pietari Posti, one of my absolute favorites. He’s currently working in Spain, doing a lot of illustrations for magazines like The NY Times, National Geographic and Playboy. He was also recently in the Now Showing project where people recreated awesome movie posters, which I posted about here.

His wallpaper is simple and beautiful feature a pattern of foxes (sidenote: a group of foxes is called a ‘skulk’) all looking rather cute. I love the color palette for this, those blues are damn beautiful, so be sure to DL the iPhone version as well, it looks great. I’d also like to point out that there is only ONE black fox, which is true for blogs as well, haha… I hope everyone enjoys this weeks desktop!

KIOSK

You know when you go on vacation, and you happen to come across something really awesome and think, “Man! Why don’t they make this where I live?” Well, now there’s an entire store devoted to these lovingly crafted products, a wonderful site called KIOSK. Based in SoHo, New York, KIOSK basically curates range of products from a far off place, their most recent outing is from Hong Kong, and the products are sold for 4 to 6 months until they visit some other place and bring in new batch of goodies. One thing they also talk about is the objects being “humble” and “straightforward” which I think is pretty great. It’s nice to appreciate these objects as beautiful because of how simple they are.

The image you see above is a ton of things that caught my eye. These items are from all over the world, Hong Kong, Japan, Sweden, Mexico, Germany, and Finland. There are packs of crayons and chalk, giant knives, candy, a bag, a dartboard, a plastic flask, a chimney sweep that looks like ceiling ornament, licorice rolling papers, and a ton of crazy things in between. Some of the things are sold out already, but since there are tons of stuff, I’m pretty sure anyone visiting can find something to enjoy. Expect to waste at least 30 minutes or more on this site, there’s a ton of stuff to sort through, so be prepared!

Found through the lovely Abby Urban

Stand Alone and Smile by Tommi Musturi

While I was at Family I also picked up this other mini-book by Tommi Musturi called Stand Alone and Smile. As far as I can tell, Tommi is a Finnish artist who makes tons of art books, and I mean TONS. A visit to his site Boing Being gives you an idea of just how many of these books he’s actually made.

I didn’t really think much of the cover, but I loved the deep navy print that the book is printed with, so I decided to pick it up. Inside there are some weird drawings of tons of random looking creatures and things, but then there are also som really beuatiful drawings of things that resemble flowers. I was totally taken by how beautiful these were, the organic shapes all coming so naturally together.

Check under the cut for some more pictures from inside.

Pietari Posti

Pietari Posti

Pietari Posti is a Finnish born illustrator currently working in Barcelona. I found his work through Poketo where he had a few wallets on sale, though sadly they’re all sold out. His work reminds me a lot of Ashley Wood, though with a lot more amazing colors, but less gratuitous tit shots. He also has a shop where you can order any of his pieces from his site. I love that you’re free to order anything, instead of the usual 2 or 3 pieces on most artist’s sites.

I put a few more of the pieces I really liked after the cut, so check ‘em out.
