Hands Remember by Seabear

I tend to listen to a lot of new music a lot and then never really post about it, so as of lately I’ve been trying to be better about sharing. Today’s musical find is a band called Seabear, which I stole from my ex-boyfriend Jeff. The band was a one-man project of Icelandic fella Sindri Sigfússon in 2000, but since then the band has grown and features 7 members.

Their most recent album, The Ghost That Carried Us Away, is a delightfully poppy album that instantly made me happy. Sindri’s voice is extremely mellow and has one of those voices that sneaks into your head. The music itself is really layered and the band plays a ton of different instruments on the album. To me this album feels similar in tone to Fanfarlo, it’s a well put together album that makes you happy that it’s summer.

Their Wikipedia page also says that they’re working on a new album that’s supposed to come out in 2009. Let’s all cross our fingers for some more Icelandic goodies.

New Mcginley Inspired Sigur Ros Video for Gobbledigook

Holy crap. Out of nowhere Sigur Ros just released this new single and video for a song called Gobbledigook, an Animal Collective-esque song that makes me really frigging excited for their new album, Með suð i eyrum við spilum endalaust (With A Buzz In Our Ears We Play Endlessly). Yeah, seriously, that’s what it’s called.

But what really takes the cake is how awesome the music video is! It was directed by Arni & Kinski, and inspired by Ryan McGinley who I guess also collaborated on the video. To me that sounds like they asked him if they could shoot in his style so he wouldn’t sue them and he said yes, haha… Anyhow, the video, in classic McGinley fashion, features a bunch of hot, young things running around naked in the woods. It’s not shot quite like a McGinley photo, but I think the essence is there at the very least. I think combined with the song it’s particularly amazing, definitely pretty fun and out there.

If you’re at work, you probably shouldn’t watch it, as there are boobs and weens ALL OVER the place in this video, so that’s you’re warning. But I highly suggest sneaking behind your bosses and co-workers back and watching it, it’s damn beautiful and the song is way fun. I mean, it’s artsy nudes, they’re not having sex, so whatevs.

Siggi Eggertsson

Born in a small town in Iceland in 1984, Siggi Eggertsson is a graphic designer who just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I saw his work on all sorts of sites last night, and for good reason. His muted lend of colors and shapes really stands out amongst the rest out there. His work feels almost similar to that of eBoy’s, but not really, I think their both just obsessed with tiny details.

He’s only 23 and he’s already worked with Coke, H&M, Stussy, Arkitip, Readymade and a ton more. Color me jealous.

Createmake

Okay, random story:
I was checking my stat counter earlier when I noticed that Ben Jonsson at Random Hero had linked up to me. Whenever people link to me I always check out their sites, cuz’ if they like my blog, I’ll most likely enjoy whatever they’ve got. Unfortunately, his portfolio site is under construction at the moment, but I did notice he had another blog linked along with mine, called createmake.

Createmake was started by Ragna Freyr, who is a graphic designer based in Iceland. It pretty much does the same thing as this blog–trying to find cool stuff by awesome people from interesting places. Createmake also tries to locate and promote Icelandic creatives as well, which is really cool.
I’m also extremely jealous of his blog entry title fonts. I wish I had a unique font like they do!

So if you like my blog, which you probably do if you’re reading this, then you’ll definitely enjoy createmake!
