Yikes! It’s already early Friday night here on the west coast but as promised, here’s this weeks Mixcast. There’s really no theme this week, just a bunch of great songs. There’s kind of this chilled vibe going through everything, and strong drums are kind of another thing, so maybe you’ll see those elements.

There’s also quite a few new songs, in fact I think everything is really recent except for one song, so if you’re looking for new music, check this one out. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you guys liked!

Here’s this week’s tracklist:
The Sea Is A Good Place To Think About The Future by Los Campesinos
Leap Year by Port O’Brien
Feel It All Around by Washed Out
Crystalised by XX
Beach Point Pleasant by Ducktails
Hailey by The Wooden Birds
Watch The Waves by Taken By Trees
Island, IS by Volcano Choir
Love by Paul Simon
Bay of Pigs by Destroyer

I’ll Carry You On | A Kitsune Noir Mixtape

Well we’re definitely in the throes of summer here in the northern hemisphere, so I thought another mixtape may get everyone excited and the hot weather off their minds. This is kind of the first part of a summer mixtape called I’ll Carry You On, while the second part will be released in about a month or so. This mix has been kicking around for a little bit now, it was originally inspired by a side project of mine that I felt needed some music.

It doesn’t really have a theme, but I feel like it flows together rather well. The songs are new and old, not quite as up to date as the other summer mix is, but this should still make your head bounce. I’d also like to suggest that you listen to this one with headphones on. There are lots of rich sounds in these songs, and even some things I’ve added in myself here and there. I hope you like it and be ready for another mix to drop on August 21st, which is my birthday, so it’s like a birthday present to all of you for being such awesome readers.

I also have a new project that I think I’ll be releasing on Friday that’s related to the mixtapes but an entirely new endeavor altogether. Keep your eyes peeled!

Here’s the track listing:

01 Eulogy by Patrick Wolf
02 Cello Song by The Books & José González
03 Knife by Atlas Sound
04 Island by Black Dice
05 Head Spins by High Places
06 Only Pieces by Here We Go Magic
07 Boneless (Panda Bear Remix) by Notwist
08 Track 14 by Karen O
09 The Ephemeral Bluebell by Bibio
10 Blue Imelda by Final Fantasy
11 Down From Above by Vetiver
12 Storm The Gates by P:ano

Terrifying Disaster | A Kitsune Noir Mixtape

I figured to start out the week right, I’d give you all a new mixtape to listen to, even though it has a bit of a gloomy title. Terrifying Disaster is an oooold mix that I found while completely cleaning out my computer last week. I always thought it was a great mix, but it did need some cleaning up. So I put all the songs back into Garageband and mixed it properly. The mix is slightly darker in tone then I usually do, but that’s kind of the fun of it. You should still be able to blast this in your car without feeling depressed, promise.

As always, the mix is made as one continuous track, not multiple tracks, like a mixtape on a cassette would be. This mix is made to be heard all the way through, and each song is mixed together with the next for a reason. If you want to hear one of the songs on it’s own, check out hypem.com, they should have it for you. Here’s the track listing:

01 Pharaoh’s Daughter by The Secret machines
02 Comfortably Numb by Scissor Sisters
03 (This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan (Safety Scissors Remix) by Dntel
04 Into The Sun by Diplo
05 Loved Despite of Great Faults by Blonde Redhead
06 Strange News From Another Star by Blur
07 The Gloaming (DJ Shadow Remix) by Radiohead
08 Hands Around My Throat by Death in Vegas
09 Little Kids (Ladytron Remix) by Kings of Convenience
10 The Guest by Phantom Planet

I hope you all enjoy it.

RAM On L.A.

Aquarium Drunkard, aka Justin Gage, released an awesome project a couple weeks back called RAM On L.A., a tribute to the Paul McCartney classic, RAM. He gathered a bunch of hip, East Los Angeles bands together like Earlimart, Bodies of Water and The Parson Redheads to create a beautiful, contemporary version of this classic record. The album is amazing and it’s suggested that everyone who downloads the songs donate money to No More Landmines, a cause that Paul proudly supports.

I’m a big fan of RAM, some of you might remember I put Ram On onto the +KN Mixtape Sunshine Sometime, it’s an absolutely amazing song. Since I’m kinda nutty, I decided to create my own cover to this sweet comp’, because… well… the original artwork needed some love.

Below is the tracklisting, download it here.

Earlimart / Too Many People
Frankel / 3 Legs
The Parson Redheads / Ram On
Bodies of Water / Dear Boy
Radar Bros. / Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
Naptunes / Smile Away
Los Baby Fools / Heart Of The Country
Le Switch / Monkberry Moon Delight
The Broken West / Eat At Home
Amnion / Long Haired Lady
The Parson Redheads / Ram On (reprise)
Travel by Sea / The Back Seat Of My Car

Be A Star And Fall Down Somewhere Next To Me | A Kitsune Noir Mixtape

Be A Star And Fall Down Somewhere Next To Me | A Kitsune Noir Mixtape

I got an email from a +KN reader named Jodi earlier today, telling me that she wished I had released a mixtape for Valentine’s Day. I wrote her back saying that I hadn’t even thought about it, but that it was a good idea. Her response cracked me up:

Maybe I should have let you know beforehand that I was expecting one, but in true girl Valentines Day form, I waited until I didn’t get one to tell you that I really wanted/expected one.

So in honor of Jody, and all the other girls out there who might not get what they want for Valentine’s Day, I give you Be A Star And Fall Down Somehwere Next To Me. This mix in a lot of ways is a continuation of the last mix, They Don’t Pierce The Night. But this is less about longing, and more about hope.

The title of the mix comes from a Rufus Wainwright song, which actually isn’t on the mix at all. But after I heard the lyric, I knew I had to use it for an eventual mix. I think it’s quite fitting for Valentine’s Day, and as always I hope you all enjoy it, and would love to hear your feedback.

01 I’m The Drunk and You’re The Star by New Buffalo
02 Long Time Ahead of Us by The Walkmen
03 Will You Be There by Port O’ Brien
04 There Is a Place? by Pale Young Gentlemen
05 It Was A Beautiful Car by M. Ward
06 You Said It Before by Mojave 3
07 Lump Sum by Bon Iver
08 Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing by The Magnetic Fields
09 Involuntary by M. Ward
10 Oh My Love by John Lennon
11 Some Racing, Some Stopping by Headlights

Bobby

Edit: I meant to mention that two of the songs on the mix were taken from Daytrotter sessions. The songs I used were Bon Iver’s Lump Sum and Headlights’ Some Racing, Some Stopping. Both of these versions were almost more magical then their original counterparts. Click here to hear the rest of the Bon Iver set, and here for the Headlights.
