Busy Beaver “Button-O-Matic ” Series Curated by UPSO

In a couple of weeks, Chicago is going to be getting a Busy Beaver shop, you know, those folks who make the great badge/buttons and stuff? Along with opening a new store, they’re also releasing a sweet line of badges that have been curated by Dustin Hostetler, aka UPSO, as a part of their Button-O-Matic series. The badges all come in either 24K gold or nickel and feature the artwork of Tim Biskup, Travis Millard, Damien Correll, Jennifer Daniel, Nicholas Gazin, Ginette Lapalme, STEAK MTN, Spacesick, Luke Ramsey and Geoffrey Todd Smith. I really want a set of these, I would look so much classier when I left the house!

This Must Be The Place – Curated by Faesthetic Magazine

Next Saturday is the opening of a brand new show at the SCION Space in Culver City called This Must Be The Place. The show is being curated by Faesthetic Magazine, aka UPSO, aka Dustin Hostetler, and features the work of Gluekit, Matt Curry, Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch, Skullphone, Damien Correll, Dan Funderburgh, Joel Speasmaker and Jemma Hostetler. The theme is based around the idea of home, and most of the works are presented in 2 colors, just like Faesthetic Magazine is.

I’m unbelievably stoked for this show, for many reasons. These are absolutely some of my favorite artists on the planet, and many of them happen to be my blog buddies, so it’ll be awesome to meet many of these folks.

The show opens Saturday, June 20th, so if you’re anywhere near LA you have to come see this show!

DESKTOP BATTLE! with SELECT

Oh man I’m so excited! So it’s already August, which means the next installment of DESKTOP BATTLE! is here and ready to destroy some people’s faces. First I want to start off with the sponsor of this month’s battle, the awesome folks over at SELECT, Threadless’ curated line of t-shirts which feature awesome artists from around the world. I happened to have a connection over there so I was able to score an ample amount of prizes for you all! Here’s the breakdown:

1st place = 5 SELECT t-shirts and 2 issues of Faesthetic
2nd place = 2 SELECT t-shirts and a copy of Faesthetic
3rd place = 1 SELECT t-shirt

In order to win these awesome prizes, I need you to make the most wallpaper you possibly can based around the idea of FACIAL HAIR. That doesn’t mean just drawing some face with a beard on it, I’ll e-crumple your entry for doing that. I want to see crazy ass beards, moustaches on dogs, pencils ‘staches on grandmas, and handlebars killing things. I’m hoping this is specific enough without being too narrow, so be super-creative and have a ton of fun with it! Here are the rest of the rules:

Please create your wallpaper at 3840px x 2400px, but send me a small JPG to preview. If you win I’ll ask you to send me your larger sized version. Also be sure to create it in RGB mode only.

You’ve gotta send your wallpaper to me August 24th, 2008 at Midnight PST. Anything sent past this time will be disqualified because I say so.

Send all wallpapers to: [email protected]
If you have any questions about the project, feel free to leave them in the comments section because someone else could be wondering the same thing!

I hope everyone has fun with this one, there’s so many rad prizes to be won, not to mention being the jugular-ripping winner of DESKTOP BATTLE! The DWP will still be on for Wednesday as well, so be sure to check back again.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project featuring UPSO

UPSO Wallpaper - iPhone, iPad, Desktop

UPSO

It’s Wednesday again, which means a new wallpaper. This week’s desktop comes from the master of self-portraits and multi-colored gems, Dustin Hostetler, also known as UPSO. Dustin is one of the busiest guys out there right now running artsy magazine Faesthetic, a studio called Sans Nom with his wife Jemma, and working as the brainchild behind Threadless’ Select line of t-shirts, not to mention random art projects here and there.

His design above was one of my favorites, I mean, who doesn’t love crazy colored gems falling from the sky? And let me tell you, it looks so effing rad on the iPhone, all of the bright colors on the black background is amazing.

UPSO also has a show starting this Friday at Wootini in Carrboro, North Carolina, just outside of Chapel Hill. The show is titled ‘I Will Miss You When I’m Gone’, and simply enough features the things he’ll miss when he dies, such as his wife, his pocketknife, the finches on his bird feeder and so on. The pieces are also going to be printed onto masonite this time around, so the work will be pretty substantial. He’ll also have a bunch of smaller pieces printed in editions of one and two as well.

Be sure to come back next Wednesday for another rad wallpaper by another amazing artist.
